When you first open the app, you'll see an import screen. Paste your WaniKani API v2 token and tap "Import My Data". You can also set this up later in Settings. To generate a token, go to WaniKani → Settings → API Tokens.
Yes! Tap "Skip" on the setup screen. The app comes with 5,000+ built-in Pokopia vocabulary items from Pokemon games. WaniKani import is entirely optional.
Items progress through 10 stages: Lesson → Apprentice (1-4) → Guru (1-2) → Master → Enlightened → Burned. Correct answers advance the stage; incorrect answers drop it back. Intervals range from 4 hours to 4 months.
Go to Settings → Export All Data. This creates a JSON file with all your study progress that you can save or share.
Uninstalling the app removes all locally stored data. You can also disconnect your WaniKani account from the Settings screen. No data is stored on any server.
If you recently imported WaniKani data, make sure the import completed fully. You can re-import from Settings → WaniKani. The import takes about a minute for a full WaniKani account.
